Dear Parents
Now that the final term is underway, I write to bring you up to date on a number of matters:-
Two additional Deputies have been allocated to St. Brendan’s Community School from September 2017, as the student population is in excess of 900 pupils. These positions have been advertised in the national papers and on publicjobs.ie.
From the beginning of the School Year 2017-18 all class periods will be 60 minutes long, with no double classes (see attached page).
The Parents Council Annual Fundraising Golf Classic takes place on Friday 5th May. Over the years the Parents Council’s efforts on your behalf have helped to provide an exceptional level of facilities here for students and have jointly sponsored the Annual Awards for Students who excel in State Exams.
I urge you to support the Parents Council in this effort. This can be done by making a donation, large or small, directly through the school office. All donations will be gratefully received and acknowledged. The following options are available:-
Sponsor a Golf Ball €2 – Envelopes to designated box in school office
Enter a Team of 4 €120 or €30 per player

State Examinations:- Parents of Exam students are advised to be completely familiar with your student’s exam timetable (copy enclosed). Your patient and caring support during the next few weeks will be important to ensure a calm and methodical pace of study and preparation. This is an important period and the clear focus must be on study and revision.
Graduation Liturgy for parents of 6th Year and the students will take place on:-
- Monday 29th May at 7.30 p.m. in the Sports Hall.
- Refreshments afterwards in school.
- There will be NO Disco on Monday night.
- School as normal all week.
Repeating A Year:- Any student who wishes to repeat a year must have a letter of application, outlining the reasons, submitted to the office by Friday 5th May, 2017.
House Exams for 2nd and 5th Years will take place from Tuesday 30th May to Friday 2nd June. Exams for 1st Years will take place from Monday 29th May to Wednesday 31st May.
Exam answer books will be distributed at the beginning of each exam. 2nd and 5th Years are asked to bring €3 on the first morning and 1st Years €2.
Any student who is absent for their Oral Exam due to illness will be required to get a medical certificate if they require the Oral Exam to be rescheduled. Students should pay special attention to the dates and times for practical exams and state exams.
First Years will get holidays on Wednesday 31st May and TY’s on Wednesday 24th May. This is to allow time for subject planning and staff training.
